Summer Time Pup Fun....

July 13, 2010

Pets, especially dogs, enjoy a cold treat once in a while too in our hot Summer temperatures. Here's a few "pet safe" items that freeze well and are healthy for your canine friend:

Vegetables & Fruit - Yep, plain ol' veggies like carrots, squash, sweet potatos, bananas and apples are fun to freeze and give as a cold treat. Make sure to only give small amounts in moderation though until you test the sensitivity of your dog's tummy!!

Chicken & Beef Broth - Broth that is low in sodium or sodium FREE is preferable to use for all of your dog treat recipes.  This is a great idea to dilute and freeze in simple ice cube trays. You can even stick a small rolled-rawhide in the center (don't worry if they fall over, your dog doesn't care how pretty they are).

Fruit Juices - You can use fruit juices for cold treats on a hot day. It's best to use juices that are lower in sugar. For example, look for juices that list "no added sugar".  I still dilute with equal amounts of water. (Use the ice cube tray idea from above).

Yogurts - Another base ingredient, is plain or vanilla low...

A Pet Sitter who will watch Pitbulls???

April 27, 2010

I had a new client call me the other day to ask if I would pet sit her Maltese, Shih Tzu and Pitbull? My answer to her was "why wouldn't I ?"  Surprised

Seems I was the 3rd "West Valley" pet sitter that she had called and none of them would even consider her pet sit job without a temperment test for her "bullie" and this was on top of 101 silly questions.

Why are "bullies" always stereotyped (like this)?  I didn't hesitate to take the job even before meeting each of them.  Logic told me that any home that has these 3 breeds currently living in harmony now, is not going to be any problem for me. Besides, I've yet to meet a dog that I cannot relate to, one way or another.

Truth be told, it was probably the Maltese I had to watch out for in this household.  He was the Alpha-male and in total control of that home.  The "bullie" was a beautiful, total doll-baby. So very well trained too!  Glad I gained another new wonderful family here in Surprise--they were a total joy!  Yes, I'm proud to watch Pitbulls!Wink
